If you have ever had your lawn equipment or trailer stolen, you know how difficult it is to deal with the setback and still fulfill your obligations. Your customers may care, but they still want their lawns maintained. While there is no magic wand solution, there are a few things that you can do to speed the process along.
- Let Seville Power know that your equipment has been stolen: the date, model(s) and serial number(s) if you have them. We can put out a bulletin to our large community of professionals and homeowners to be on the lookout for your equipment.
- Make a police report. Many people skip this unless their insurance demands it. If a report is not made, then the police have no idea and cannot help you find your equipment. Even if it was a handheld trimmer, lawn maintenance equipment is not cheap.
- Check the local pawn shops. Pawn shop owners cannot always tell if an item has been stolen or not. If you do find your equipment at a pawn shop, let the police know and then let the police handle retrieving your equipment.
For prevention of theft, sometimes the simple solution is the best. Here are some ideas:
- For riding lawnmowers, trailers and other large equipment with tires, utilize a boot such as the Wheel Club or Tire Claw from the makers of The Club. These devices will prevent the wheels from turning and are made of high quality parts.
- For handheld equipment, secure them to your trailer racks using boot locks or cable locks.
- For large equipment, consider installing a Lo-Jack system or other tracking device.
- Make sure that you have a copy of each model and serial number in a safe place. it is also advisable to take pictures of your equipment and any scratches or dents that can help identify your unit in case the serial number plate has been removed.
Using protection methods will help to ensure the safety of your equipment from would-be thieves. Remember that Seville Power is here to help
